How to understand/memorize all Inputs, Tools & Techniques and Outputs (ITTOs)

Learn ITTOs

PMP is the most popular certification for project managers. In order to pass this certification, one of the major difficulty which many of us faces is to remember all Inputs, Tools & Techniques and Outputs (ITTOs) of all processes. In the first instance, it seems very difficult to memorize all ITTOs. However, with the simple technique we can understand and learn ITTOs of all processes.

Step 1 : Start studying any Knowledge Area. After studying the first process of that Knowledge Area, prepare three columns as Inputs, Tools & Techniques, and Outputs. Write down whatever you remember without looking at the book. Mark those which are important Inputs, Tools & Techniques, and Outputs in bold. Once you have written down whatever you can remember, check and compare with the ones in the book. Check what you missed and try to understand what made you to skip those.

Step 2 : Repeat Step 1, after you have completed Knowledge Area. Only difference this time is try to write down all Inputs, Tools & Techniques, and Outputs of all processes in one go and then compare with the book.

Step 3 : Use different color coding for different process groups to easily remember processes falling in different process groups.

Step 4: Try to have a look at all Inputs, Tools & Techniques and Outputs of the Knowledge Area once or twice every week.

Step 4 : Do this for all the Knowledge Areas.

After repeating these steps several times, you will realize that gradually you will remember all Inputs, Tools & Techniques and Outputs. Make sure not to download ready-made material from the internet but prepare it by your own.

Check Project Management Courses to revise all Knowledge Areas and take PMP Test Series to cement your understanding.

Best of Luck in doing this exercise and let me know how effective it is in your case.
