✅ Correct Answer: A. Facilitate a quick consensus process and move forward collectively

    🔍 Explanation:
    A. Facilitate a quick consensus process and move forward collectively
    ✅ Correct.
This aligns with Agile’s emphasis on collaboration and self-management. As Scrum Master, your role is to facilitate—not decide. Using lightweight consensus techniques like thumb vote or consent-based decisions helps the team make timely decisions while maintaining unity.

    B. Recommend the developers decide since it’s their tooling
    ❌ Tempting but wrong.
While developers will use the tool, Agile values cross-functional decision-making. Excluding testers violates the principle of whole-team collaboration.

    C. Ask the Product Owner to break the tie to avoid delays
    ❌ Incorrect.
The Product Owner is responsible for product decisions, not team tooling or internal workflows. Delegating this to the PO contradicts self-organizing team dynamics.

    D. Defer the decision to the retrospective for a deeper discussion
    ❌ Too late.
The team needs to decide now to proceed with the sprint. Retrospectives are for reflection and improvement—not urgent decisions.

✅ Correct Answer: A. Facilitate a quick discussion and create a spike to explore the risk

    🔍 Explanation:
    A. Facilitate a quick discussion and create a spike to explore the risk
    ✅ Correct.
In Agile, emerging risks are handled as soon as they surface. A spike (time-boxed investigation or research task) can be added to the current sprint if capacity allows or prioritized for the next sprint. Facilitating a conversation immediately helps the team assess impact and adapt without panic.

    B. Add the risk to the RAID log and revisit it in the next sprint
    ❌ Too passive.
Waiting until the next sprint to act on a high-impact, time-sensitive risk goes against Agile’s principle of responding to change quickly.

    C. Ask the Product Owner to cancel the sprint to address the risk
    ❌ Too drastic.
Cancelling a sprint is rare and only justified when the sprint goal becomes obsolete. The risk here can be managed within the current structure.

    D. Advise the team to stay focused and bring it up in the review
    ❌ Too late.
By the review, it may be too late to explore or mitigate the risk. Agile favors early feedback and fast inspection to avoid surprises.

✅ Correct Answer: A. Mitigate the risk by involving regulators early and in iterations

    🔍 Explanation:
    A. Mitigate the risk by involving regulators early and in iterations
✅ Correct. Agile handles risks iteratively. By involving stakeholders like regulators early, and integrating compliance checks within sprints or backlog items, you reduce uncertainty and the chance of late surprises. This aligns with Agile’s principle of early and continuous delivery of valuable work.

    B. Accept the risk and flag it for review in the sprint retrospective
❌ Too reactive. Retrospectives are for reflecting on what’s already happened. Waiting to act until a retrospective is delayed risk management, not Agile.

    C. Transfer the risk by assigning it to a compliance consultant
❌ Incorrect in Agile. While a consultant may help, risk ownership in Agile remains with the team. You can’t outsource accountability or decision-making on high-impact risks.

    D. Avoid the risk by deferring all compliance work to the end
❌ Anti-Agile approach. Deferring regulatory approval until the end invites last-minute failures. Agile promotes early validation and incremental compliance through the Definition of Done.

✅ Correct Answer: B. Introduce exploratory testing sessions with the whole team

    🔍 Explanation:
    A. Add more formal testing steps at the end of each sprint
    ❌ Incorrect.
This implies a mini-waterfall approach and goes against the Agile principle of continuous testing throughout the sprint. Post-sprint testing leads to delayed feedback and less agility.

    B. Introduce exploratory testing sessions with the whole team
    ✅ Correct.
Exploratory testing engages team members beyond automated tests, encouraging critical thinking, uncovering edge cases, and instilling quality as a shared responsibility. It complements automation and helps teams find issues they didn’t anticipate.

    C. Ask the Product Owner to validate every story before closing
    ❌ Incorrect.
While stakeholder validation is important, quality assurance is not the Product Owner’s job. This approach shifts responsibility away from the team and may delay delivery.

    D. Assign quality ownership to a rotating team QA lead each sprint
❌ Partially useful, but not the best answer.
Agile promotes shared quality ownership. Assigning one person may lead to others disengaging from quality discussions, reducing overall accountability.

✅ Correct Answer: B. To set a sprint goal and forecast work the team can deliver

    🔍 Explanation:
    A. To estimate total hours and assign work to team members
❌ Incorrect. Scrum teams self-organize; work is not assigned top-down. Estimating hours may occur, but it’s not the main focus of Sprint Planning.

    B. To set a sprint goal and forecast work the team can deliver
✅ Correct. Sprint Planning is used to define the Sprint Goal and for the team to forecast what they believe they can achieve based on capacity and past velocity.

    C. To lock down scope so no changes occur during the sprint
❌ Incorrect. While changes to the sprint backlog are discouraged once the sprint starts, flexibility exists as new understanding emerges. The sprint backlog is owned and managed by the team.

    D. To finalize product backlog priorities for upcoming releases
❌ Incorrect. That’s done in Backlog Refinement and Release Planning, not Sprint Planning. Sprint Planning focuses only on the current sprint.

✅ Correct Answer: A. Push the team to commit to all high-priority items

    🔍 Explanation:
    A. Push the team to commit to all high-priority items
❌ NOT recommended – Correct answer.
In Scrum, the Development Team decides how much work it can commit to. Forcing or pressuring the team to accept more work violates the principle of self-management and leads to overcommitment and poor quality.

    B. Encourage the team to identify technical risks early
    ✅ Best practice.
Identifying technical risks early in Sprint Planning helps the team make informed commitments and avoid surprises later.

    C. Remind the team to plan how selected work will be done
    ✅ Good practice.
Sprint Planning includes not just what will be done, but how. This creates shared understanding and reduces rework.

    D. Help the team break large stories into smaller tasks
    ✅ Facilitative Scrum Master behavior.
Helping the team break work into smaller, manageable pieces enables better planning and accurate forecasting.

✅ Correct Answer: A. Facilitate a root cause discussion during the retrospective

    🔍 Explanation:
    A. Facilitate a root cause discussion during the retrospective
    ✅ Correct.
A sudden drop in velocity with no clear reason should prompt the team to inspect and adapt. The Sprint Retrospective is the right forum to explore potential causes like technical debt, unclear requirements, distractions, or hidden risks. The Scrum Master’s role is to foster reflection and continuous improvement, not enforce speed.

    B. Advise the Product Owner to increase the sprint commitment
    ❌ Wrong direction.
Agile teams commit to what they believe is achievable. Increasing scope without solving underlying issues will likely increase burnout and reduce quality.

    C. Recalculate velocity using the average of the best 3 sprints
    ❌ Misleading metric.
Velocity is a team-owned historical measure, not something to be gamed or massaged. Using inflated historical data gives false confidence and erodes trust.

    D. Push the team to increase productivity to restore confidence
    ❌ Anti-Agile.
Velocity is not a performance target; it’s a planning guide. Pushing the team undermines psychological safety and Agile values like sustainable pace.

✅ Correct Answer: A. Encourage the team to include risk-mitigation work in sprint planning

    🔍 Explanation:
    A. Encourage the team to include risk-mitigation work in sprint planning
    ✅ Correct.
If risk exposure isn’t going down, it means mitigation efforts aren’t being executed. In Agile, risks can be addressed by adding specific risk-mitigation tasks or stories into the backlog and including them during sprint planning. The Scrum Master’s role is to coach the team and PO to balance value delivery with risk reduction.

    B. Reprioritize the product backlog to fast-track high-risk items
❌ Sounds good, but not the Scrum Master’s role.
Backlog reprioritization is the Product Owner’s responsibility. While the Scrum Master can influence, they must first raise awareness and encourage inclusion of mitigation items—not override prioritization decisions.

    C. Recommend stopping the use of the risk burndown chart
    ❌ Incorrect.
If the chart shows no progress, it’s a signal, not a flaw. Removing it ignores risk instead of addressing it. Agile encourages transparency and continuous inspection, not hiding problems.

    D. Present the risk trend at the next system demo or sprint review
❌ Useful, but not the first action.
Sharing data is helpful, but waiting until the review delays corrective action. First, the team needs to actively respond to risk before showcasing results.
