4 stakeholders have noted that major change is required on the project. A project manager is compiling the change requests when he receives a call from the seller informing him that the seller’s supplier have notified them of a price increase effective the next day. The seller is therefore asking for the change to become official right away. Generally, the project manager should?

    a) Finish creating and then sign and send the change order
    b) Report the issue to the change control board
    c) Ask for an extension of time to finish
    d) Get the change signed by the procurement manager

    The correct answer is D.

In a procurement situation, generally only the procurement manager has the authority to sign changes. Sometimes the project manager has certain expanded authority to sign in the event of an emergency. However, an increase in cost is generally not considered an emergency. Choice A is not appropriate, since in this case, a procurement manager must sign a change. Reporting (choice B) will take too long, and should not be necessary. An extension (choice C) will not help in this situation.
